Stoops: Bradford 'not' starting Miami game

NORMAN, Okla., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Oklahoma football Coach Bob Stoops says injured quarterback Sam Bradford will not start when the eighth-ranked Sooners visit co-No. 21 Miami-Florida Saturday.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner was sidelined by a shoulder joint sprain in Oklahoma's season-opening 14-13 loss to BYU Sept. 5.

Freshman red-shirt Landry Jones will start against the Hurricanes, Stoops said.

"Our team has a lot of confidence in Landry's ability and we're looking forward to going into the game with him at quarterback," he said. "Our approach will be the same that it has been in the last two games."

Jones has completed 49-of-81 for 673 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions in Bradford's absence. He established a single-game school record Sept. 19 with six touchdown passes against Tulsa and has completed 49-of-81 for 673 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
