ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Chris Davis hit a two-run homer and had an RBI during a six-run sixth inning Thursday, leading the Texas Rangers to an 11-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Texas ended a four-game losing streak and salvaged the finale of a four-game series the Rangers had hoped might vault them back into contention for a division title. Los Angeles, however, clinched the American League West pennant and pushed Texas out of playoff contention by winning the opening game of the series.
The Angels will begin the American League Division Series at home against Boston next Wednesday or Thursday.
Kevin Millwood (13-10) went the distance while striking out a season-high 10. It was his third complete game of the season and the 20th of his career.
John Lackey tuned up for the playoffs by working the first two innings. The loss went to Trevor Bell (1-2), who gave up six runs in 2 1/3 innings.
With three games left in the regular season, the Angels have reached 869 runs scored, a franchise record.
