DETROIT, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Orlando Cabrera's three RBI Thursday keyed an 8-3 Minnesota win over Detroit that pulled the Twins back within two games of the AL Central-leading Tigers.
His game-breaking, three-run double gave Minnesota a 7-1 advantage with two outs in the top of the eighth.
Joe Mauer drove in two runs, and Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel and Denard Span added one RBI apiece.
Delmon Young had three hits and was hit by a pitch for the Twins, who have just three games left in the season to catch Detroit.
Winner Scott Baker (15-9) yielded an unearned run and five hits in five innings.
Detroit scored on RBI singles by Gerald Laird and Curtis Granderson and an eighth-inning error by Matt Tolbert.
Laird and Magglio Ordonez had two hits each for the Tigers, whose four-game split allowed them to cling to their two-game lead.
The losing pitcher was starter Nate Robertson (2-3).
The Twins' final series is at home against Kansas City and the Tigers close out at home against the Chicago White Sox.
