TOKYO, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Jelena Jankovic ended a four-match losing streak to Marion Bartoli with a win that put her into the semifinals of the $2 million Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
Jankovic, seeded seventh, hadn't beaten Bartoli since the 2007 French Open and had fallen to 3-5 lifetime against the French player. But in Thursday's quarterfinals, Jankovic used six service breaks in a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bartoli, who was seeded No. 14.
She advanced to the tournament semifinals against 15th-seeded Li Na, who got out of the quarterfinals after a tough 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) win over No. 8-seeded Victoria Azarenka. The match took nearly three hours.
The other semifinal Friday will pit Maria Sharapova against 11th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska. Sharapova will be appearing in her fourth semifinal since shoulder surgery last year. She was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Iveta Benesova in the quarterfinals.
Radwanska beat Magdalena Rybarikova 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday.
The tournament final is scheduled Saturday when the champion will earn $350,000.
