DAVIE, Fla., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington is to undergo a third surgery to his right shoulder Friday.
The 10-year NFL veteran suffered a season-ending dislocated shoulder and damage to his rotator cuff when San Diego linebacker Kevin Burnett hit him in the third quarter Sunday.
Pennington, 33, has been placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve List.
"It's very disheartening to lose any player and Chad's no different," Coach Tony Sparano told reporters Wednesday. "Good leader (and) he's a very good player."
Pennington ends the season with 51 completions on 74 passes for 413 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Two-year pro Chad Henne will make his first career start Sunday when the Dolphins (0-3) are home to the Buffalo Bills (1-2).
