BANGKOK, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- U.S. tennis player Sam Querrey required emergency surgery after cutting his right forearm in a freak accident at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
Querrey, who has risen to No. 25 in the world and was seeded third for the Thailand Open, fell through a glass-top table he was sitting on while tying his shoes. He suffered severe injuries to his right arm -- he plays right-handed.
He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of play because of the injury but is expected to make a full recovery.
Querrey, 21, is 41-23 in matches this year but has made five finals. He won the LA Tennis Open in August for his second career tournament title. He ended 2008 ranked No. 39 and had reached as high as No. 22 this year.
