Dolphins get QB Thigpen from Chiefs

DAVIE, Fla., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Tyler Thigpen from the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Miami quarterback Chad Pennington suffered a shoulder injury during this past Sunday's game against San Diego and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Thigpen, in his third season out of Coastal Carolina, played 14 games and made 11 starts for the Chiefs last year. He was dropped to a backup spot in training camp this summer when Kansas City acquired Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots.

Brodie Croyle started the season-opener for the Chiefs while Cassel recovered from a knee injury suffered in the preseason.

Last year Thigpen completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 2,608 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has not thrown a pass this season.

Thigpen is expected to be the No. 3 in Miami behind Chad Henne and Pat White.
