Rangers OF Byrd named AL Player of Week

NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers outfielder Marlon Byrd was named the American League Player of the Week Monday.

Byrd batted .320 while tying for the AL lead with three homers and a league-high 11 RBI during the seven-day period.

Byrd's best day of the week was in a 15-3 win over Tampa Bay Saturday, when he hit two home runs -- including his sixth career grand slam -- while driving in five runs.

Byrd, 32, won his second career weekly honor. For the season he has a career-best 43 doubles, 20 homers and 89 RBI.
