NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was named the National League Player of the Week Monday.
Votto, 26, had a Major League-best 14 hits, including 10 doubles, and 11 runs scored in six games last week. He became the first player to hit 10 doubles in a five-game span in a single season since Hall of Famer Paul Waner did it for Pittsburgh in 1932.
Votto had eight RBI, an NL-leading 1.080 slugging percentage, and a .593 on-base percentage during the period. For the season, he is hitting .318 with 23 home runs and 80 RBI.
