ATLANTA, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson came from behind Sunday to win Tour Championship and Tiger Woods, who was second, got a $10 million prize for winning the FedEx Cup points race.

Mickelson shot a 5-under-par 65 for 9-under 271 and a three-shot spread over Woods, a six-time winner in 2009 who closed with a 70, good enough for his second FedEx Cup win in three years.

The title was Mickelson's 37th on the PGA Tour and third this year. Mickelson collected $4.35 million -- $1.35 for the tournament and $3 million for placing second in the FedEx standings.

"It really feels great to have won," Mickelson said. "Even though I didn't win the FedEx Cup, I won the last event of the year. I feel great about my game."

Mickelson's wife and mother were diagnosed with breast cancer this year and he spent some time away from the tour.

"This certainly makes it a much better year than it was," Mickelson said. "I look at it as a fortunate year. Long-term, both Amy and my mom are going to be great."

Sean O'Hair (68) finished third at 275. Third-round leader Kenny Perry slipped to a 74 and tied for fourth at 276 with Padraig Harrington (69).

Mickelson was four behind Perry at the beginning of the final round.

Referring to the FedEx Cup scenario, Woods said: "The whole idea is to be consistent the entire season and position yourself as best you possibly can for the playoffs. I played well. When I didn't win, I was in the top 10 and kept accumulating points. In the playoffs, I played pretty good."
