COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven and Steven Lenhart scored one goal each Saturday, leading Columbus to a 2-0 Major League Soccer victory against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gaven scored in the 33rd minute and Lenhart in the 59th.

The Crew (12-4-10) are seven points from clinching their second straight Supporter's Shield, which goes to the MLS team with the best regular season record.

They have played five matches in the last 13 days and were without reigning MLS Defender of the Year Chad Marshall (left knee sprain) for a third straight contest.

The Galaxy (10-6-1) suffered their first loss in 13 matches against Eastern Conference foes this season.

Star midfielder David Beckham missed the contest because of right ankle inflammation.

In the standings, Columbus leads Chicago by five points in the Eastern Conference, and Los Angeles remained three points ahead of third-place Seattle in the West.
