DANVILLE, Calif., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Sophie Gustafson, trying for her first victory since 2003, maintained a one-shot lead Friday after two rounds of the CVS LPGA Challenge.
Gustafson fired a 3-under-par 69 Friday for a 36-hole total of 134 at the Blackhawk Country Club. The 65 she shot Thursday was her lowest 18-hole score of the year.
Tied for second at 135 were Maria Hjorth, Shanshan Feng and world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa, who won at least six times in each of the last three years but has only two victories this season.
Joo Mi Kim, Sun Young Yoo, Suzann Pettersen and Angela Stanford shared fifth place at 137. Stanford was the only American among the Top 8.
Jiyai Shin, ranked second in the world and leading the LPGA Tour's money list as a rookie, played the first five holes in 2-over Friday and then withdrew. She had played in 20 previous tournaments this year and missed the cut in only one of them.
