COMMERCE CITY, Colo., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Conor Casey scored on a penalty kick in second-half stoppage time Wednesday, allowing the Colorado Rapids to salvage a 1-1 tie with San Jose.

It was the second time in five days the Rapids had pulled out a tie against San Jose with a penalty kick just seconds before the end of the game.

The Earthquakes took the lead in the 67th minute on a penalty kick by Chris Wondolowski after the ball had bounced off the arm of a Colorado player in the penalty area.

Colorado was able to tie it when Omar Cummings was taken down in the area by Jason Hernandez. Casey came through with his 15th goal of the season.

The tie moved Colorado (10-8-8) into a third-place tie with Seattle in the Western Conference. San Jose, in last place in the West, fell to 5-12-7.
