DENVER, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Will Venable had a solo homer and a three-run double Wednesday, pacing the San Diego Padres to a 6-3 victory over Colorado.
The Rockies saw a three-game winning streak halted and their lead over Atlanta in the National League wild-card race was cut to four games.
Venable's 12th home run of the season came during a two-run second and he then cleared the bases by launching a double to center in the fifth to give the Padres a 6-0 lead.
Rookie Ryan Webb, obtained in a July trade with Oakland and recently recalled from Class AAA Portland, collected his first major league win in relief.
San Diego starter Tim Stauffer gave up two runs and had the bases loaded in the fifth when Webb (1-0) came on to get the third out. Heath Bell pitched the ninth for his 40th save.
Jason Marquis (15-12) took the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits in 4 2/3. He has lost four of his last five decisions.
