DANVILLE, Calif., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Sophie Gustafson, trying to end a six-year winless drought, took a two-shot lead Thursday after one round of the CVS LPGA Challenge in Danville, Calif.

Gustafson suffered only one bogey and shot a 7-under 65 over the Blackhawk Country Club course. She is in her 12th year on the LPGA circuit and has won four times, but not since the 2003 Samsung World Championship.

Her best showing this season has been a second-place finish at the Evian Masters in July.

Na Ri Kim, Angela Stanford and Sophia Sheridan, were tied for second at 67.

Stanford ranks sixth on the LPGA money list this year and is the second-leading American on the chart behind No. 3 Cristie Kerr.

Sheridan, who has spent most of her career on the Futures Tour, is playing in only her 18th LPGA event spread over five years. She has made the cut just five times.

Shanshan Feng, Karrie Webb, Kyeong Bae, Mikaela Parmlid and world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa were all at 68.

Jiyai Shin, who has climbed to No. 2 in the world rankings behind Ochoa with three victories this year, shot a 72 Thursday and was tied for 46th place.
