CARSON, Calif., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Goals by David Beckham and Edson Buddle Saturday lifted Los Angeles to a 2-0 Major League Soccer win over Toronto FC.

Beckham scored in the ninth minute and also assisted on Buddle's tally in the 83rd.

Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts needed to make just one save because of tight defense by his teammates.

The Galaxy (10-5-11) gained three critical points in their drive to finish first in the Western Conference standings and are within two points of the first-place Houston Dynamo.

The Reds (9-10-7) took nine shots, but only one on goal.

They are two points out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot with just four games left in the regular season.

Goalkeeper Stefan Frei made six saves.
