SEATTLE, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs Sunday, lifting the Seattle Mariners to a 7-1 win over the New York Yankees.
The homer, Griffey's 16th this season and the 627th in his career, gave Seattle a 7-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second. He had staked Seattle to a 1-0 lead with a first-inning RBI double.
Adrian Beltre, Franklin Gutierrez and Jose Lopez each had one RBI for the Mariners, who made the most of seven hits to win for the second time in the three-game series.
Winner Ian Snell (5-2) gave up a run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He left after throwing 105 pitches.
Jorge Posada, back from a three-game suspension for fighting, drove in New York's run with a sixth-inning double. Mark Teixeira had three of the five hits for the AL East-leading Yankees, who have split their last six games.
The losing pitcher was starter Joba Chamberlain (8-6).
