ST. LOUIS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs have suspended volatile outfielder Milton Bradley for the rest of the 2009 season for his negative comments in the past few days.

The outspoken right fielder said Saturday the Cubs were "not a positive environment."

General Manager Jim Hendry said on the team's Web site he told Bradley about his decision in Bradley's hotel room prior to Sunday's contest against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

"There have been a lot of issues that we've lived with during the year," Hendry said, "(but) the last few days became too much for me to tolerate, to be honest with you. I'm not going to let our great fans become an excuse."

Saturday, Bradley told the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Daily Herald he needed "a stable, healthy, enjoyable environment."

The switch hitter finishes his first season with the Cubs with a .257 overall batting average, 12 homers and 40 RBI.
