ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Matt Garza combined with three relievers on a three-hit shutout Saturday, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
After Evan Longoria, Willy Aybar, Ben Zobrist and Gabe Kapler each hit RBI singles in the bottom of the first, Garza's work essentially was done.
Garza (8-10) gave up three hits in 7 1/3 innings with six walks and 10 strikeouts.
Relievers Russ Springer, Randy Choate and Dan Wheeler completed the shutout.
Longoria and Kapler had two hits each for the Rays, who have won three in a row and 13 of 17 against the Royals this season.
Lyle Overbay, Aaron Hill and Edwin Encarnacion each had a hit for the Blue Jays, who have lost five of six.
The losing pitcher was starter Ricky Romero (12-9).
