SEATTLE, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Ichiro Suzuki hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning Friday, giving Seattle a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

New York took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning and Mariano Rivera came on in a bid to pick up his 41st save.

Rivera (3-3) seemed to have the game wrapped up when he struck out Jack Hannahan and Mike Carp to open the ninth.

In the span of just two pitches, however, Seattle came from behind. Mike Sweeney hit Rivera's first offering to center for a double and Suzuki then smashed the first pitch over the wall in right.

Felix Hernandez (16-5) got the win by going the distance for the first time this season and for the seventh time in his five-year career. He gave up eight hits and struck out three.

The Yankees had their lead over Boston in the American League East reduced to six games.
