
OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Solo homers by Kurt Suzuki and Mark Ellis Saturday helped Oakland to an 8-4 victory against Cleveland.
Ellis hit a solo homer, giving Oakland a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Suzuki had three of the Athletics' 16 hits and his lead-off homer put Oakland ahead 7-3 in the fourth.
Bobby Crosby and Cliff Pennington added two RBI apiece. Scott Hairston hit a first-inning RBI single for the Athletics, who have won six in a row.
Winner Brad Kilby (1-0) recorded his first major league victory with 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings. Michael Wuertz earned his fourth save.
Cleveland's Trevor Crowe, Jamey Carroll and Kelly Shoppach had one RBI each. Shoppach also scored a run on Crosby's fourth-inning error for the Indians, who have lost seven straight.
The losing pitcher was starter Jeremy Sowers (6-10).
