OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Kurt Suzuki's three-run homer in the third gave Oakland a five-run lead Thursday and vaulted the Athletics to a 5-2 victory over Cleveland.
Oakland has won four in a row and has allowed just three runs during its winning streak.
Clayton Mortensen (2-2) picked up the win in his fourth major league start. He gave up both Cleveland runs on four hits over five innings.
Four relievers combined to give up two hits over the final four frames. Andrew Bailey worked the ninth for his 25th save.
Oakland had a 1-0 lead going into the third, but broke the game open in that inning, thanks to the homer by Suzuki.
Cliff Pennington drew a lead-off walk against Justin Masterson (4-8) and scored on a double by Adam Kennedy. Ryan Sweeney walked on a 3-2 pitch and Suzuki followed with his 13th homer of the season.
