ATLANTA, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- David Ross scored from second on a fielding error with two outs in the ninth inning Friday, giving Atlanta a 6-5 win over the New York Mets.
New York took a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but threw away the lead and allowed the Braves to win their sixth straight game.
Atlanta stayed 7 1/2 games behind Philadelphia in the National League East.
Francisco Rodriguez (3-5) came on to protect the one-run lead in the ninth and immediately gave up a double to Garret Anderson. Rodriguez hit Brian McCann with a pitch and, after Ross came in to run for McCann, Yunel Escobar advanced the runners with a sacrifice.
Adam LaRoche was intentionally walked to load the bases and a sacrifice fly by Omar Infante delivered the tying run.
That brought up Ryan Church, who hit a grounder to first that took a bad hop and eluded the grasp of first baseman Daniel Murphy. The play was ruled an error and Ross had time to make it all the way from second with the winning run.
Eric O'Flaherty (2-1), the seventh Atlanta pitcher, worked the top of the ninth to get the win.
Omar Santos gave the Mets their 5-4 lead with a solo homer in the eighth.
