

GUANGZHOU, China, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Ayumi Morita won 12 of the final 13 games in rallying for a second-round win Wednesday at the Guangzhou Women's Open tennis tournament in China.
Morita, seeded seventh, won one game in the first set but faced just two break-point situations the rest of the way in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Abigail Spears. Morita managed to win just 11 points in the first set but dominated the other sets, taking 57 of 85 points.
The other matches Wednesday were straight-set affairs, including Alexandra Panova's 7-5, 6-4 upset of No. 6-seeded Olga Govortsova.
Also in the second round, fifth-seeded Shahar Peer stopped Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-3 and No. 8-seeded Alberta Brianti took out Lenka Wienerova 6-3, 6-1.
The other four second-round matches are scheduled Thursday.
