SAN DIEGO, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Everth Cabrera's third hit Wednesday, a 10th-inning RBI single, boosted San Diego to a 6-5 win over Arizona, averting a three-game sweep.
Cabrera's heroics were set up by a two-run pinch homer by Adrian Gonzalez, which created a 5-5 tie with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Tony Gwynn, Jr., and Nick Hundley had one RBI each.
Luis Durango also had three hits and Henry Blanco two for the Padres, who have split their last six games.
The winner was closer Heath Bell (6-4), San Diego's ninth pitcher.
Justin Upton led Arizona with five hits and one RBI.
Chris Young had two hits and one RBI, while a run scored on pitcher Ryan Webb's sixth-inning throwing error for the Diamondbacks, who have lost seven of 10.
The losing pitcher, in a rare relief appearance, was Yusmeiro Petit (3-10).
