LEMONT, Ill., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods won the 71st title of his PGA career Sunday -- an eight-shot victory in the BMW Championship in Illinois.

Jim Furyk (66) and Marc Leishman (69) tied for second at 273. Sean O'Hair (66) was fourth.

The title was Woods's sixth of 2009 and fifth in the BMW event.

Woods, 33, is two wins behind Jack Nicklaus for the No. 2 spot on the PGA Tour career victory list. Nicklaus was 46 when he won his 73rd and final title on the tour, trailing only Sam Snead, who had 82 wins.

"I am pleased," Woods said after the BMW win. "I hit the ball well this week, made a few putts. Overall, this entire week I was very consistent and I ended up on top."

Woods won $1,350,000.

The win put Woods back atop the tour's Fed Ex Cup playoff standings.
