
HOUSTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Paul Maholm gave up six hits in eight scoreless innings Sunday, leading Pittsburgh to a 2-1 win over Houston and ending a five-game losing streak.
Maholm (8-8) gave way to closer Matt Capps in the top of the ninth after throwing 95 pitches and inducing 14 groundouts.
Ryan Doumit led Pittsburgh with two hits, one a solo homer in the eighth.
Garrett Jones hit a first-inning RBI single for the Pirates, who snapped their 13-game road losing streak.
Houston's run scored on Lance Berkman's solo ninth-inning homer off Capps, his 21st this season.
Miguel Tejada had two of the eight hits for the Astros, who lost for just the third time in their last 10 games.
Losing pitcher Felipe Paulino (2-9) fanned seven batters in five innings.
