BOSTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Jon Lester and Billy Wagner combined on a four-hit shutout Sunday, leading Boston to a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay, capping a doubleheader sweep.
Lester (13-7) gave up two hits in eight scoreless innings with three walks and seven strikeouts.
Wagner gave up two hits in the top of the ninth as Tampa Bay's late-summer swoon continued.
Boston, which swept the three-game series, scored on Jason Varitek's two-run sixth-inning single, an RBI groundout by Mike Lowell and Jason Bay's eighth-inning solo homer.
Four batters had one hit each for the Rays, who suffered their 11th consecutive loss.
DH Pat Burrell was ejected in the eighth for arguing balls and strikes.
Losing pitcher James Shields (9-11) surrendered three runs and six hits in six innings with three walks and six strikeouts.
