MLB: Boston 3, Tampa Bay 1 (1st game)

BOSTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Boston's Clay Buchholz limited Tampa Bay to a run and five hits in seven innings Sunday, leading a 3-1 Red Sox win in the first game of a doubleheader.

The loss was the 10th straight for the Rays.

Hideki Okajima hurled a scoreless eighth and closer Jonathan Papelbon did the same in the ninth for his 36th save.

Buchholz (6-3) walked three batters and struck out five in 97 pitches.

Dustin Pedroia hit a two-run homer for the Sox, breaking a 1-1 tie with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Victor Martinez drove in the other run for Boston, which has won four straight contests.

Tampa Bay scored on Jason Bartlett's seventh-inning infield single.

Losing pitcher Matt Garza (7-10) struck out eight batters in 7 1/3 innings.
