Clijsters tops Serena at U.S. Open semi

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Kim Clijsters won a controversial 6-4, 7-5 U.S. Open women's semifinal Saturday over defending champion Serena Williams.

The victory completed an unlikely Open sweep of the Williams sisters.

The former World No. 1 beat third-seeded Venus Williams 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 in a fourth-round match Monday.

Saturday, Clijsters' victory was secured when the second-seeded Serena took exception to a foot fault called by the line judge at 15-30 in the second set.

Serena then verbally abused the judge, pointed her racquet and finger and yelled in disgust.

Williams argued with the chair umpire and supervisor and a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct was called. Television replays showed Serena using obscenities.

"I haven't really thought if I have any regrets," Williams said. "I got a point penalty and it was match point."

Clijsters will face 19-year-old Caroline Wozniacki, a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Yanina Wickmayer, in Sunday's women's final.

The winner will pocket $1.6 million.
