Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Josh Wolff's goal in the 10th minute Saturday held up for a 1-0 Kansas City win over New York in Major League Soccer action.
Wolff scored on a followup of a blocked kick by Claudio Lopez, giving him nine goals this season for the Wizards (7-11-6), who have won two of their last three matches.
They rose to 2-4-0 under interim Coach Peter Vermesm after their second 1-0 win over New York this season. The other was at home on April 23.
Also, KC goalkeeper Kevin Hartman recorded his sixth shutout in 2009, raising his MLS record to 83 career shutouts.
The Red Bulls (4-17-4) could not build on their surprising 1-0 win over defending MLS Cup champion Columbus on Aug. 30.
