NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Brian Roberts led a Baltimore rally and spoiled Derek Jeter's record-setting effort Friday, giving the Orioles a rainy 10-4 win over the New York Yankees.
Roberts had three RBI and Baltimore scored nine times from the fifth to seventh innings, overcoming an early 4-1 deficit as well as the emotion involved in Jeter's big moment.
Jeter led off the third inning with a single to right off starter Chris Tillman, the franchise-record 2,722nd hit of his career. That is one more than Lou Gehrig managed during his legendary career with the Yankees, which ended in 1939.
Jeter had tied the record Wednesday with a three-hit game.
Roberts started the Baltimore comeback with a sacrifice fly during a two-run fifth, then had a two-run single during the Orioles' four-run sixth.
Baltimore tacked on four more runs in the seventh, during which the game was delayed by rain.
Tillman (2-3) got the win despite giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings. Damaso Marte (1-2), who took the loss, got only one out in the sixth while giving up four runs in relief of Andy Pettitte.
Mark Hendrickson worked the final three innings after the second rain delay, netting him his first save.
