
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Dan Ryan was called for holding late in the fourth quarter Saturday for a safety that gave No. 19 North Carolina a 12-10 win over Connecticut.
Cody Endres completed a 16-yard pass on third-and-22, throwing from the end zone but a flag was thrown on Ryan on the play.
Tyler Yates threw for 233 yards on 23-of-32 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions for the Tar Heels (2-0). The touchdown was a game-tying 2-yard toss to Zach Pianalto, who caught seven passes for 87 yards.
North Carolina was held scoreless until early in the fourth quarter when Casey Barth kicked a 22-yard field goal. The Huskies had built a 10-0 lead with a 47-yard field goal by Dave Teggart in the closing seconds of the first half and a 4-yard touchdown run by Jordan Todman in the closing minute of the third period.
