WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Luciano Emilio scored on a rebound in the 39th minute Wednesday, giving D.C. United a 1-0 Major League Soccer victory over Kansas City.

It was the ninth goal of the season for Emilio and moved United within two points of Chicago for second place in the Eastern Conference. Chicago has a game in hand.

Kansas City has only six victories this year and is in next-to-last place in the East.

The Wizards' hope for a comeback were all but wiped out when Chance Myers was ejected in the 86th minute for picking up his second yellow card.

Josh Wicks made four saves in recording the shutout, his fifth of the season.
