Report: Debose out with hamstring injury

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Promising freshman Florida wide receiver Andre Debose is out for the season with a torn hamstring tendon, the Gainesville Sun reported Wednesday.

Debose, who was expected to be the heir apparent to graduated wide receiver/running back Percy Harvin, will have surgery at a yet-to-be-determined date.

He suffered a hamstring injury last spring at the end of his senior year at Sanford (Fla.) Seminole High School and was plagued by the injury most of the off-season.

He had been sidelined the past few weeks and likely will red-shirt the 2009 season to save a year of eligibility.

Last season, he gained nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards running and receiving with 18 touchdowns.

Gators Coach Urban Meyer told the newspaper he met with Debose's parents and discussed surgery in late August, but nothing became official until Tuesday.

"(Debose was) really crushed but he understands," Meyer said.

Rivals.com rated Debose the No. 2 wide receiver in the high school class of 2009.
