HOUSTON, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada's two-run single with one out in the ninth inning Wednesday gave the Houston Astros a dramatic 2-1 decision over Atlanta.

Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson shut down Houston on five hits over eight innings but closer Rafael Soriano (1-5) labored over 20 pitches while giving up the lead.

After Michael Bourn struck out to open the ninth, Kazuo Matsui singled to right and went to third on Lance Berkman's double. Carlos Lee drew an intentional walk to load the bases and Tejada followed by stroking a 1-2 pitch into center.

Houston won for the fifth time in six games and Atlanta has lost six out of seven.

Jose Valverde (4-2) struck out two in a perfect top of the ninth to get the win. Starter Wandy Rodriguez gave up a run on three hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.
