MLB: Florida 6, New York Mets 3

NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Home runs by Cody Ross and Dan Uggla helped stake Florida to a five-run lead Wednesday and the Marlins held on to defeat the New York Mets 6-3.

The win kept the Marlins within six games of division-leading Philadelphia in the National League East.

Ross hit a three-run homer during a four-run first inning and Uggla added a solo shot in the sixth.

Rocky Nolasco (11-8), who took a shutout into the seventh inning, wound up surrendering three runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings before Renyel Pinto was called on to get the Marlins out of trouble.

New York could not manage a hit over the final two innings and Leo Nunez worked the ninth for his 20th save.

The loss went to Patrick Misch (1-2), who allowed five runs on six hits in six innings.
