MEMPHIS, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Veteran point guard Allen Iverson confirmed Wednesday in a message on Twitter that he has joined the Memphis Grizzlies.

Neither Iverson nor the Grizzlies disclosed details, but ESPN reported the 13-year veteran received a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.

The Commercial Appeal first reported Iverson's signing Tuesday and said his contract is filled with incentives.

The nine-time NBA All-Star earned nearly $21 million while playing for Detroit and Denver last season.

"I think Allen Iverson is going to be very fine with whatever role he would end up fulfilling here in Memphis," General Manager Chris Wallace told WHBQ-AM.

Iverson, a first-round pick by Philadelphia in the 1996 NBA Draft from Georgetown, has played in 886 career contests with per-game averages of 27.1 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals.

He was the NBA MVP in the 2000-01 season but played in just 54 games last season because of a back injury.
