FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The New England Patriots have picked up defensive secondary prospect Bret Lockett and released seasoned wide receiver Greg Lewis.

Lockett, a cornerback, was picked up off waivers from Cleveland, which had signed him as a rookie free agent in May. He had 61 tackles in 11 games his senior year at UCLA.

The Patriots had obtained Lewis last March in a trade with Philadelphia. He made 127 catches for 1,699 yards and seven touchdowns in 90 games in six NFL seasons.
