
MILWAUKEE, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Chris Carpenter pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts Monday to pace the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Carpenter (16-3) has won his last 11 decisions and hasn't lost since June 30. The 2005 National League Cy Young Award winner trails teammate Adam Wainwright (17) for the most wins in the majors this season.
Albert Pujols was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI for the Cardinals, who have won eight of their last 10 games. St. Louis leads the NL Central by 11 1/2 games over the Chicago Cubs.
Brewers starter Dave Bush (3-7) gave up two runs on seven hits with no walks in seven innings. The right-hander hasn't had a victory since May 19.
Jody Gerut had the lone hit -- a double in the fifth inning -- for the Brewers, who have lost five of their last seven games.
