NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Mark Teixeira was 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI Monday to help the New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay 11-1 and sweep a doubleheader.
The Yankees won the first game 4-1.
Teixeira, who has 35 homers this season, hit a three-run homer during an eight-run third inning and added a solo homer in the sixth. New York moved to a nine-game lead over Boston in the AL East after posting its 10th win in 12 games.
A.J. Burnett (11-8) had eight strikeouts over six innings and snapped a seven-start winless stretch. He allowed four hits, three walks and a run in his first victory since July 27.
Melky Cabrera added three hits and two RBI, and scored twice for the Yankees.
Andy Sonnanstine (6-9) gave up eight runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay first baseman Carlos Pena, leading the AL with 39 homers, broke two fingers in the first game and is out for the rest of the season.
