TORONTO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Joe Mauer was 3-for-5 with two RBI Monday to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Justin Morneau and Denard Span each had an RBI and scored a run for Minnesota, which moved within 6 1/2 games of American Central Division-leading Detroit. The Tigers were idle Monday.
Jeff Manship, who was making only his second big league start, gave up three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Jesse Crain (5-4) earned the win after working a perfect 1 1/3 innings in relief with three strikeouts.
Jose Bautista hit a solo homer while Adam Lind and Vernon Wells each added an RBI for the Blue Jays, who have lost six of their last eight games.
Scott Richmond (6-9) suffered the loss after giving up eight hits and six runs in six innings.
