MLB: Boston 6, Chicago White Sox 1

CHICAGO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Victor Martinez whacked a three-run homer and Mike Lowell hit a two-run shot Sunday, powering the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The win gave Boston a three-game lead in the American League wild card race over Texas, which fell to Baltimore 7-0.

Jon Lester (12-7) pitched seven shutout innings and earned the win. Lester allowed four hits and struck out eight batters.

Ramon Castro homered for Chicago, which had won its previous four games.

John Danks (12-9) was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs and seven hits in six innings.
