Georgia tackle out with knee injury

ATHENS, Ga., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- University of Georgia offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant will miss the rest of the season with a torn left knee ligament, Coach Mark Richt said Sunday.

The injury occurred midway through the third quarter Saturday when the 13th-ranked Bulldogs lost their season-opener 24-10 to No. 11 Oklahoma State.

The 6-foot-5 inch, 306-pound native of Wadesboro, N.C., missed the 2008 season because of a similar injury in the same leg during a pre-season practice. That injury led to reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation, causing him to miss this year's spring practice.

"It was a surprise to him and to us," Richt said on the school's Web site. "He said he's got two choices, either give up or fight again. We know, and he knows he will be back."

Sturdivant was a true freshman in 2007 when he started all 13 games at left tackle and earned freshman all-America honors.
