SEATTLE, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Jordan Jefferson threw three touchdown passes to lead 11th-ranked Louisiana State University to a 31-23 win over Washington in the season opener at Seattle.
Jefferson went 11-for-19 passing for 172 yards, with four receptions for 117 yards from Chris Toliver.
The LSU Tigers (1-0) won despite being outgained in total yardage 478-321.
Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, who previously served as an assistant head coach at USC, inherited a team that went 0-12 a year ago and is currently riding a school-record 15-game losing streak.
Quarterback Jake Locker went 25-for-45 for 321 yards, passing for a pair of touchdowns and a costly interception for the Huskies (0-1), who had two big turnovers in the first half that turned the game in LSU's favor.
