COL FB: California 52, Maryland 13

BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Kevin Riley threw four touchdowns to lead 12th-ranked California to a 52-13 blowout win over Maryland in the season opener for both teams in Berkeley, Calif.

California's Jahvid Best rushed 137 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Riley connected on 17-of-26 passes for 298 yards for the Golden Bears (1-0), who entered halftime with a 31-6 lead. California had 542 yards of total offense.

Maryland's Chris Turner finished 17-of-30 passing for 167 yards for the Terrapins (0-1), who beat the Golden Bears 35-27 last September.
