
DENVER, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth Friday, finishing off a late Colorado comeback that brought the Rockies a 5-4 win over Arizona.
Giambi was called up from the minors by Colorado earlier this week and has produced clutch hits in his only two at-bats.
He had a two-run single Wednesday as a pinch-hitter in a 5-2 win over the New York Mets and came through again Friday in a key situation.
Seth Smith doubled home two runs in the seventh inning, allowing Colorado to tie it 4-4.
Yorvit Torrealba opened the eighth with a single off Blaine Boyer (0-2) and Clint Barmes sacrificed Torrealba to second. That brought up Giambi, who hit a 2-1 pitch into left field for the game-winning RBI.
Rafael Betancourt (2-3), who threw only four pitches and retired the final man in the eighth inning, got the win. Franklin Morales collected his second save.
Colorado stayed one game in front of San Francisco in the National League wild-card chase. The Giants also came from behind Friday to defeat Milwaukee 3-2.
