Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CHICAGO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Paul Konerko drove in three runs Saturday, propelling the Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.
He hit a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the first and a solo homer in the eighth.
Mark Kotsay's lone hit was a solo homer and Chris Getz also drove in a run for the White Sox, who have won four in a row following a five-game losing streak.
Winner Gavin Floyd (11-9) surrendered a run and just three hits in eight innings with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
Boston's run scored on Jason Bay's 31st homer this season leading off the top of the eighth.
The losing pitcher was starter Tim Wakefield (11-4).
Boston has lost three of its last four games.
