COL FB: Penn State 31, Akron 7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Daryll Clark's three touchdown passes Saturday let ninth-ranked Penn State cruise to a 31-7 season-opening win over Akron.

Clark threw one scoring pass in the first quarter and two in PSU's 17-point second quarter. He finished 29-of-40 passing for 353 yards.

Evan Royster scored once in 14 carries for 61 yards, while three receivers caught one touchdown pass for the Nittany Lions (1-0).

One receiver, Derek Moye, caught six passes for 138 yards.

Akron quarterback Chris Jacquemain went 13-for-22 for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Deryn Bowser scored once on three receptions for 63 yards, but seven different players gained just 28 yards on 30 rushing attempts for the Zips (0-1).
