NFL fines Favre for illegal block

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was fined $10,000 by the NFL Friday for an illegal crackback block.

Favre's below-the-knees block on Houston cornerback Eugene Watson occurred in the third quarter of Minnesota's 17-10 pre-season win over the Texans Monday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

"I wasn't thinking about throwing blocks," Favre said. "I will be 40 years old in October and (was) weeding 13 days ago. Believe me, my intentions were not to be cheap."

Watson was not hurt when Favre threw a clearing block after rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin took a direct snap from center.
